Short Biography

Prof. Reda El Edel is a Professor emeritus of Economics at Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt. Prof. El Edel has obtained his B.Sc from Cairo University, 1962,  M.Sc. from Birmingham University, 1968, and Ph.D. from the Soviet Academy of Science, 1971. Prof. Reda has been actively engaged in numerous activities, including banking, industry, and academic research in the fields of macro economics and middle-eastern politicastudies for more than 30 years. Prof. El Edel has authored seven books and numerous publications. Throughout his career, he supervised over 100 Master students and over 20 Ph.D. students in Egypt and abroad. Prof. El Edel has been also a consultant for many commercial and governmental institutes, such as the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Public Enterprise.

· Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Commerce, Ain Shams University, 1971-1978.

· Visiting Professor at Institute of Economics, Oslo University, Oslo, Norway, 1974-1975.

· Associate Professor, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt 1978-1983.

· Planning Expert at the Arab Planning Institute, Kuwait, 1978-1979.

· Consultant for Minister of Finance, Egypt, 1979-1981.

· Professor of Economics since Feb. 1983.

· Director (member of board of Directors) of Misr International Bank (Mibank) 1986-2004.

· Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Commerce of Ainshams University for Postgraduates Affairs, 1986-1992.

· Director of Middle East Research Center of Ain Shams University, 1993-1999.

· Dean of Faculty of Commerce, Ain Shams University, 1995-1998.

· Prof. Reda El Edel has served on a number of boards including:

           - Organization of Chemical Industries in Egypt, 1990-1992.

           - Engineering Industries Holding Company in Egypt, 1992-1995.

           - Chemical Industries Holding Company in Egypt since 1995.

           - Economic Committee of the public Radio and Television in Egypt since 1992.

           - Egypt’s Academy of Science and Technology.

           - Academic Committee of Sadat Academy of Management Science.

· Consultant for the Minister of Public Enterprise, 1999-2002.

· Member of Several high Academic Committees in Egypt.

· Elected Board member of the Egyptian Society of Political Economy, Statistics and Legislation, 1991-1994.

· At present, an elected board member of the Arab Society For Economic Studies, and he is now its Secretary General.
